If you follow the filmmaking community, you’ll have heard of Vincent Laforet’s Directing Motion Tour. I had the opportunity to check it out, and wanted to let you know what I thought of it!

The tour is made up of two parts:

Analysis

  • Vincent breaks down shots and scenes from some of the best movies, studying how they used motion.
  • He explains why they used particular camera movements or motion within the frame.

Practical

  • Vincent assembles a small crew from the audience, and does live shoots, recreating some of the shots that were analysed.
  • I picked up so many great principles and tips from seeing him work!
